Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Proofly handles information when you use the Proofly Chrome extension, website, account features, saved history, cached product analyses, and license activation. We wrote it to be clear for users and aligned with Chrome Web Store privacy disclosure expectations.
1. What Proofly does
Proofly helps users research products by analyzing public product discussions and community comments from supported sources. When you open Proofly on a supported product page, the extension can use product page context and supported public sources to create product insights such as sentiment, repeated praise, repeated complaints, recommendations, source summaries, history, and cached analyses.
Proofly is designed for product research. It is not intended to collect private messages, confidential documents, payment card numbers, medical information, financial account information, or other sensitive personal data.
2. Data Collection and Handling
| Category | Examples | Why it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Account information | Email address, display name, profile photo, authentication state, onboarding status, terms and privacy acceptance versions. | To create and manage your Proofly account, sign you in, remember onboarding progress, and provide account-based limits. |
| Product page context | Product title, product URL, page domain, detected retailer or product source, and visible product metadata. | To identify the product you are researching and create relevant analysis. |
| Public source data | Public posts, public comments, public video or thread metadata, source links, source names, public engagement counts, and related public discussion snippets. | To summarize public buyer signals, sentiment, praise, complaints, and source context. |
| Analysis and history | Generated summaries, sentiment results, recommendation text, saved product history, cached analysis data, usage count, monthly limits, and timestamps. | To show past analyses, avoid repeating work unnecessarily, enforce plan limits, and improve the user experience. |
| License and subscription data | Gumroad license key validation result, plan status, license hash, seat/device status, subscription status, and purchase metadata returned by Gumroad. | To activate Proofly Pro, verify subscription status, prevent license abuse, and keep plan access accurate. |
| Extension settings | Enabled or disabled state, selected platforms, platform access status, posts per platform, comments per post, panel width, and button position. | To remember your preferences and make the extension work consistently. |
| Support messages | Messages you send to support, contact email, account identifiers, and related troubleshooting context you choose to provide. | To respond to support requests and resolve issues. |
| Diagnostics and security data | Error messages, request status, abuse prevention signals, service logs, and operational metadata. | To maintain security, debug product issues, prevent misuse, and keep Proofly reliable. |
3. Chrome extension permissions
The Proofly extension requests permissions only to provide its product research features, account features, and supported platform integrations. Depending on the current version, these permissions may include:
- storage: stores settings, session state, cached data, history, and preferences.
- activeTab, tabs, scripting: allows Proofly to detect supported pages, open the Proofly panel, and run product research logic on pages where the extension is used.
- identity: supports sign-in and account authentication.
- cookies: checks whether supported platforms are signed in when you choose platform access features. Proofly does not use this permission to read private messages.
- declarativeNetRequest: supports required request behavior for supported source access.
- contextMenus, debugger, tabGroups: support extension controls, background tasks, source collection flows, and platform handling where required by the product.
- host permissions: allow Proofly to access its own backend services, Firebase/Google services, supported public source domains, and product research sources needed for the extension to work.
